Frequently Asked Questions

What is Red, White & True?

Now in its 5th year, Red, White & True is the annual giving initiative for current, retired and emeritus faculty and staff members at the University of Arkansas. It’s a team effort powered by volunteers all across campus and runs now through April 24.  Different from United Way and the Razorback Foundation, Red, White & True gifts stay right here on campus, supporting the academic mission of the U of A.

Why is employee giving so important?

Simply put, it's the power of participation. Last year alone, a record 33% of current and retired employees — 1,696 individuals — collectively gave $449,640 to 250 different funds on campus.  When we give at work, our gifts go to work, providing much-needed funding for scholarships, research, programs and facilities.  Plus, our collective participation sets a philanthropic example for our students and alumni to follow.  We're showing that giving back begins from within.

When will I be asked to make a gift?

Each spring, employees will be invited to make a gift to the areas of campus that matter most to them. While the active phase of the 2015 Red, White & True initiative runs for 6 weeks in March and April, all gifts made between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015 count.

How will my gift be used?

It’s up to you! A gift says something about what you value, so you’re encouraged to designate your gift to the areas on campus that mean the most to you. Whether that’s student scholarships, faculty research, public radio, or your college or department, your gift will make a difference.  Not sure where to give?  Check out this list of all the different funds faculty and staff have supported since Red, White & True launched in 2011.

Does my gift really matter?

Gifts of all sizes come together to make an immediate and important impact for our students and programs. Last year, gifts $100 and under added up to more than $129,000 for our university!  That’s why your participation is what’s important. Every gift counts and every gift makes a difference.

Can I make a gift through payroll deduction?

Yes!  Payroll deduction is an easy way to increase your impact and spread your gift out over time.  Deductions may be made for a specific number of months or until further notice.  Simply complete the new online payroll deduction form to get started or call 575-2280 for questions about an existing payroll deduction gift.

Is my gift confidential?

Philanthropy is a very personal choice.  While you will be counted in participation totals for Red, White & True, rest assured that your gift will remain confidential.  Individual contributions are not shared with the volunteer team, so please call 575-2280 or email with questions about your participation status or giving history.

Does my Arkansas Alumni Association membership count?

Absolutely!  As an employee, your membership in the Arkansas Alumni Association means you’re Workin’ Like a Hog and Red, White & True!  Not only does your membership allow you to show your pride in the U of A, it’s also a great way to invest in student scholarships, faculty and staff awards, and so much more.  Learn more about Workin’ Like a Hog

What about my Razorback Foundation giving?

Not at this time.  Since giving is confidential and the Razorback Foundation is a separate 501(c)3 organization, we're currently unable to count these contributions in Red, White & True. Your support of our student-athletes is greatly appreciated, and we hope you'll also show your Razorback pride by making a gift to the U of A to support all students on campus.

I already contributed to the United Way campaign this year.  Does that count?

It does not.  Red, White & True is all about supporting the people and programs right here on the U of A campus.  The annual United Way campaign raises much-needed support for local non-profit organizations in the areas of health, income and education.  Red, White & True and United Way are great ways to make a difference on our campus and in our community, and that's why we hope you'll participate in both.

What if I don't want to receive annual Red, White & True mailings?

We can exclude you from Red, White & True emails and paper mail-outs; simply email or call 575-2944.
